Progress in the Village of Bumpe
After hard work and fundraising by Kim Zook (Rotarian) with the East Bremerton (WA) club and Jim Culberson(Rotarian) with the Morgantown North Rotary club. Clean water will be provided to Bumpe Chiefdom. Contributions from these two U.S. Rotary Clubs were matched by Rotary District funds, and the total was matched by The Rotary Foundation. The project was recently approved and provides just over $50,000 to fund construction of new wells. Currently the Rotary partners are working with Joseph Kposowa and the Bumpe chiefdom to get work underway. These wells will supply safe, accessible water for many Bumpe residents who now spend many hours carrying water long distances.

Bumpe High School’s Progress
Things changed rapidly as soon as the Kposowa Foundation began to provide modest resources for rebuilding the school! In 2009 there are 600 students attending Bumpe High School! This near-peak enrollment had not happened since before the Civil War began, and it has only been possible because of public support for the Kposowa Foundation’s reconstruction efforts.

Bumpe High School’s Repaired and Renovated Classrooms
… students help build their own school. They collect sand and carry it uphill approximately one mile from the river, to make bricks for the next building. So far, twelve buildings have been restored to usefulness, outfitted with furniture, chalkboards, and a teacher’s desk, but still do not electricity or computers…YET!
